Can Someone Explain Tire Ratings To Me?

Alright. Vikkie needs new tires. Badly. The size is 205/55/R16 with a 91V M+S on it. I know nothing about tires. I'm trying to stay somewhat affordable, and have a budget of around $100 per tire. Some of the ones I'm looking at have a lower speed rating according to the store. What does this mean? These Goodyears are a "T". Is that bad? Please help! Much nicer wagon for your time.

Do you drive frequently for long periods above 118 MPH? T will be fine.

The speed rating is just what speed the tires were tested up to. For example, "T" is 118mph. That just means they didn't test the tires over 118mph. Clearly, the higher the speed rating, the more high performance the tire. However, how often do you typically go over 118mph? If the answer is never, T rated tires are probably fine.

No less than 118 MPH in fact. My car has two speeds. OFF and 119 MPH.
